Qualification and training requirements for occupational health care physicians, nurses and consultants
Directors
A director overseeing health care services must be an occupational health care consultant for services provided under the Occupational Health Care Act.
Full- and part-time physicians
A licenced physician working full-time in occupational health care must be an occupational health care consultant. Persons working on average 20 hours or more in a week in occupational health care are considered full-time workers.
Licenced physicians working part-time in occupational health care, on the other hand, must have completed at least 15 credits worth of modules on occupational health care within two years of starting in occupational health care.
Public health nurses
In addition to being licenced to work as a public health nurse, public health nurses working in occupational health care must have completed at least 15 credits worth of modules on occupational health care within two years of starting in occupational health care.
Experts
Experts in occupational health care must have sufficient knowledge of occupational health care. Sufficient knowledge is considered to include
- 15 credits worth of modules on occupational health care completed within two years of starting in an expert role in addition to being licenced to work as a physiotherapist or psychologist
- at least 2 credits worth of modules on occupational health care in addition to an appropriate degree in occupational hygiene, social work, ergonomics, technology, agriculture, VDU eyecare, nutrition, speech therapy or exercise or an equivalent vocational degree in a similar field.
