Youth work in municipalities

Under the Youth Act, youth work and youth policy are listed as the tasks of municipalities. Municipalities organise services and facilities for young people and support young people’s civic activities. The Ministry of Education and Culture supports municipal youth work with central government transfers and grants.

At the Regional State Administrative Agency, we support youth work in municipalities and cooperate in the regional networks of youth work. We also grant discretionary government transfers for youth work.

We produce information on municipal youth work

We produce reports and statistics related to municipal youth work. We have compiled these on our nuorisotilastot.fi website. The website contains information on such things as which youth work services that are available in different municipalities. The statistics are mainly based on responses to surveys by the municipalities themselves.  We have added visual elements such as images, graphs and tables to the website.

Coordination of communal youth work

The regional coordinator supports the competence and quality of youth work in his/her area of operation and disseminates related information. The regional coordinator brings together regional cooperation networks and organises meetings and joint events. We work together with the regional coordinator to develop youth work.

We fund the regional coordination of youth work from the Regional State Administrative Agency by means of the development of regional and local activities in the youth sector grant.
