Use of animals for scientific and educational purposes
Animal testing licence
Any operator engaging in animal testing must have a licence. Examples of such operators are universities and research centres that keep or use laboratory animals. Licensing is our way of making sure for instance that the facilities, equipment and the way in which animals are looked after are in order. No animal experiments may take place until we have issued a licence.
Our enforcement consists of regular inspections.
Project licence for animal testing
In legislation, animal tests are referred to as projects. They require a project licence. The processing of project licences is centrally managed in Finland by the National Animal Experiment Board.
Officers from the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland prepare applications for the Board’s consideration.
