Tobacco control

We provide advice and guidance on the enforcement of the Tobacco Act to local authorities responsible for tobacco control. We also regularly review local authorities’ tobacco control plans and ensure that they are followed through.

We also conduct inspection and consultation visits in monitoring units of environmental health services. During a visit, we assess:

  • the contents and implementation of the tobacco control plan drawn up by the monitoring unit
  • the organisation of monitoring and enforcement activities
  • if the control measures are in line with the legislation and national tobacco control guidelines.

After the visit, we provide the unit with a written report on the assessment. If the control measures implemented by a monitoring unit fall short of the requirements, the Regional State Administrative Agency may request a clarification from the unit. In their response, the unit must clarify what changes it aims to make to its control measures to ensure compliance with the requirements.
