Competition and consumer affairs
We provide consultancy and act as one of Finland’s enforcement authorities for competition and consumer affairs.
Price information
We ensure that the way in which prices of goods and services are displayed in retail stores and advertisements complies with the law. We advise businesses and help them to comply with these principles.
The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority and the Consumer Ombudsman are responsible for cases that require interpretation of the law. Ultimately, the rules on the disclosure of price information are set by the Finnish Market Court. Enforcing regulations on false advertising and contractual terms is the responsibility of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.
Competition enforcement
We enforce competition law together with the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority. The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority is Finland’s national competition authority, while Regional State Administrative Agencies only have competence in regional anti-competition enforcement.
Consumer credit marketing
Regional State Administrative Agencies can intervene in false advertising of consumer credit.
Package holiday operators
Regional State Administrative Agencies are responsible for ensuring that package holiday operators who have a legal obligation to register their business have done so and that they have a legally binding guarantee in place to protect their customers.
Measuring instruments
It is our job to ensure that measuring instruments are fit for purpose and work as required by law. Regional State Administrative Agencies can send an inspector to visit a store or a marketplace in person. We report all faulty measuring instruments to the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency, which decides on any further action.
