Tobacco control and enforcement

Local authorities employ tobacco control officers who are responsible for inspecting retailers. Local authorities also enforce smoking bans and restrictions. Local authorities are also responsible for the licensing of retailers and the registration of wholesalers of tobacco products and nicotine-containing liquids.

Regional State Administrative Agencies steer the operations of the authorities enforcing the Tobacco Act. We also regularly review local authorities’ tobacco control plans and ensure that they are followed through.

Housing communities can contact their local authorities to apply for a ban on smoking on balconies.

Contact your local authority for tobacco control if you need guidance or advice on any matter related to the Tobacco Act.
